Have you ever heard of gingivitis before? Gingivitis is a condition that typically arises as gum disease progresses within your mouth. Gum disease, also referred to as periodontal disease, is a highly progressive oral health condition in which your gum tissues are infected. Infections can spread and tooth loss can occur. To help prevent the rise of gingivitis, look for visual clues and other symptoms that are often associated with it.

If you are suffering from gingivitis, it often produces bleeding gums or frequent bad breath. If you routinely suffer from bad breath even though it is treated, it could be linked to an underlying condition such as gingivitis. Furthermore, the presence of swelling, tenderness, or dry mouth can all produce symptoms of gingivitis.

To lower your risk of gingivitis, it is important to make sure your oral hygiene routines are properly taken care of. If you fail to brush and floss on a daily basis, you could put yourself at an increased risk of gum disease. Furthermore, early symptoms of gum disease are often at a higher risk due to a pregnancy, unavoidable genetic predispositions and various dietary choices you may have. In addition, be aware that medications can often lead to dry mouth and gum disease.

The time is now to upgrade your smile with gingivitis prevention and care from Dr. John Poulos and our team at our dental office in Northport, New York. Northport Prosthodontics wants your smile to stay free of gum tissue infection, so call us at 631-262-0644 to book an appointment.

There is a field of study within oral medicine that looks at the structure and function of diseases of the oral cavity. It is called Stomatology. While it is not yet recognized as a dental specialty as yet, it is poised to become an important science to understand the connection between overall body health and oral health.

There are serious illnesses in the world that present oral health issues alongside their accompanying body health problems. Heart disease has long been associated with gum disease, as has diabetes. HIV/AIDS and other systemic diseases like lupus all bring with them issues of oral health.

If you have poor health alongside your dental health issues, your dentist may recommend a specialist outside of dentistry to work with in tandem. Together, they may be able to do more for you by combining their efforts. For instance, using the diseases mentioned above, heart disease patients need the help of a cardiologist, Diabetics should be seeing and endocrinologist. Persons with HIV/AIDS need experts in immunology, and a lupus patient needs a rheumatologist.

It is of vital importance that persons with serious medical conditions that also have oral health issues see their dentist every six months. There may be some diseases that undiagnosed until dental problems arise..

If you have an oral health issue that may require a specialist, feel free to call Drs. John and Jaime Poulos and our team at Northport Prosthodontics. You can make an appointment at: 631-262-0644, or come by our office in Northport, New York.

You should always visit us if you are in need of a tooth restoration. However, damage prevention is often essential to keep your smile safe, so frequent visits to your prosthodontist for tooth restorations are needed. You can visit us for routine check-ups and professional cleanings, which could be highly effective for targeting areas that you may have missed with your oral health care daily treatments. One common condition to watch for is dental erosion.

Numerous risk factors and causes are associated with dental erosion. It is important to understand the risk factors, so you can help prevent the disease from destroying your smile. Acid reflux disease is a known cause of dental erosion due to the fact that it can cause hot flashes to travel up through your throat and into your mouth. Other common risk factors for dental erosion include the excessive consumption of sugars and other harmful products such as starches. Furthermore, genetic predispositions and medications that produce dry mouth can greatly contribute to the presence of dental erosion.

To help treat your smile well and prevent dental erosion from occurring, always make sure you are practicing oral health care cleaning habits that include brushing your teeth twice a day and brushing once a day as well. In addition, make sure you are using safe and effective tools such as brushes with soft bristles and shed-resistant dental floss. Saliva production is also extremely important in the prevention and treatment of dental erosion. Thus, make sure your mouth produces additional saliva by chewing foods that are high in water or try chewing sugarless gum after meals. Saliva is a natural substance that can help wash away food debris and harmful acids associated with dental erosion.

Building a better oral health regime begins on the back of dental erosion prevention treatments. When you are ready to visit the prosthodontic office of Northport Prosthodontics in Northport, New York, for dental erosion prevention treatments, you can book an exam by calling us at 631-262-0644. Dr. John Poulos and our entire team look forward to providing you with the dental erosion prevention treatments you need.

To ensure your smile has the greatest chance for oral health success, always visit your dentist for routine checkups and oral examinations. Furthermore, if you have ever suffered any oral accidents or injuries, it is important to make sure they are treated immediately. Should any teeth need to be extracted, a tooth restoration will eventually be needed to replace it. For a permanent tooth prosthetic that is highly effective, consider dental bridges.

In order to protect your smile, it is a good idea to always look for effective tooth replacement treatments such as dental bridges. Dental bridges are highly effective tooth prosthetics as they are extremely durable and can last up to a lifetime of heavy wear. Dental bridges do not require a strong jaw and can be placed simply by attaching them to nearby or neighboring teeth.

Dental bridges are held in place to improve your smile and complete your oral health needs. With dental bridges in place, you will receive an enhancement in aesthetics and can even potentially benefit from the restoration of hindrances that may have been caused due to missing or lost teeth. This includes upgrades in your ability to eat food as well as speak properly.

If missing teeth are not replaced with dental bridges, numerous oral health ailments can occur. Not only will your jawbone begin to weaken and destabilize your gums, but tooth slippage can occur, and your other healthy teeth will rotate out of position. In addition, plaque buildup can begin to take hold in the gaps left behind, and the spaces can become a haven for harmful debris that can lead to dental erosion and tooth decay.

Do you wish to see a dentist in Northport, New York for dental bridge replacements? If so, our team at Northport Prosthodontics can help. Dr. John Poulos and our team can give you a complete oral examination to determine which dental bridge replacements are best for you and your oral health desires. To book a trip to our dentist office, call us at 631-262-0644 to schedule an appointment.

If you have missing teeth, it can be quite troublesome, especially because the teeth help you talk, eat, and even smile. Without your teeth, all of these things are difficult. This is why it’s best to replace your missing teeth as soon as you can. Doing so can also help you prevent additional complications, like misaligned and chipped teeth. Fortunately, there are many dental restorations that can replace your missing teeth and give you the smile you need. One beneficial and effective restoration is a dental bridge.

A dental bridge in Northport, New York, can help you in many different ways. In fact, it can help you chew and speak again, restore your smile, preserve the shape of your face, prevent remaining natural teeth from drifting out of place, add force to your bite, enhance your smile, and boost your oral health.

This tooth-replacement option is a beautiful and reliable substitute tooth that is fused to a dental crown on each side. When it is placed in your mouth, it will anchor to the surrounding teeth and fill the space in your mouth without the need for surgery.

The process of placing a dental bridge typically requires two appointments. First, our dentist will numb your mouth so you don’t have any discomfort during your visit. Then, they will shave a portion of the neighboring teeth so the bridge can anchor to them. When your teeth are ready, your dentist will make an impression of the area and will send that impression to a professional dental lab. There, lab technicians will create your new bridge. While you wait, your dentist will cover the neighboring teeth with temporary dental crowns so you can use them until your next appointment.

When your new dental bridge is made and ready, you will come back into Northport Prosthodontics to get it placed. During this appointment, our dental team will cement the bridge over the teeth and will make sure it gives you the smile you’re looking for.

Call Northport Prosthodontics today at 631-262-0644 if you have any questions or if you would like to see if a dental bridge is right for you. Our dental team will be excited to talk with you and help you schedule an appointment so you can meet with Dr. John Poulos or Dr. Jaime Poulos about the possibility of replacing your missing teeth.

The second and third trimesters are when baby teeth normally develop, so being aware of your food decisions and choosing the best foods during this time will help your baby grow strong, healthy teeth. Please review the following tips to see how you can revise your diet for the better.

As always, eating a variety of foods is still important during pregnancy. By eating many different foods, you will be helping you and your baby receive many different nutrients important for growth and vitality. You should do your best to eat foods lower in sugar, such as Greek yogurt, cheeses, whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and lean proteins. An important mineral to consume is folic acid, which decreases the risk of your child developing birth defects. Foods high in folic acid include asparagus, bananas, beans, bread, broccoli, cereals, leafy greens, peas, and rice are excellent natural sources of folic acid.

Certain foods can damage your good dental hygiene. Specifically, foods which are sugary may endanger your oral health by creating plaque buildup and (eventually) tooth decay in your mouth. Just as you should seek out good foods, avoid unhealthy foods like sugary drinks, jams, cookies, candies, and cakes. Foregoing these sugary foods will prevent too much plaque and tartar from forming on your teeth, thwarting the development of oral diseases.

We have one more suggestion about how to eat when pregnant: by spacing snacks out across your day, you may be able to minimize the effects of motion sickness and nausea that you experience during pregnancy. If you decide to snack often, we hope that you’ll brush often as well; snacking increases plaque buildup, which can harm your teeth and gums.

If you’re ready to keep your mouth healthy during your pregnancy, please contact our dentist’s office in Northport, New York; our staff at Northport Prosthodontics are trained to assist pregnant women. Dr. John Poulos will go over the do’s and don’ts of dental health during pregnancy to help you stay confident that your mouth stays healthy and strong. Please call us now at 631-262-0644 to schedule your next appointment.
